SESSION II: July 11 - 23
SESSION III: July 25 - August 6

Upside Arts Day Camp (open to ages 7-17) provides a unique summer experience with original shows written specifically for the campers! Students work together to build confidence, creativity, and develop skills needed to perform on stage, while rehearsing for a fully staged production.

Upside Arts Day Camp offers an immersive, thoughtful and one of a kind theatrical experience which focuses on teamwork and the creative process. Through each two week session, campers have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively together and with our staff on an original musical. Every camper plays a character written specifically to showcase their unique and special talents.

Our playwrights for summer 2022 are Miles Burns (The Tortoise and the Hare, Life On A Plate: The Story of a Pea) and Joshua Goldberg (Belle of the Barn Dance: A Cinderella Story). Burns and Goldberg have worked with countless young performers over the years creating new plays and musicals for kids. Between them, they have written and premiered nearly 40 original works for seacoast area kids throughout the last decade.

The Tortoise and the Hare.jpg

Session I
The Tortoise and the Hare

June 27 - July 8 (no camp July 4)

Two Performances July 9

An Original Musical by Miles Burns

Based on Aesop's Fable

We all know the story and the great debate it stirs... Does slow and steady win the race? A singular race perhaps not, but what about the "big race"?  Join Hare and Tortoise on a life encapsulating adventure about the choices we make and the places those choices take us- Who will win the race called Life?

Session II
Belle of the Barn Dance: A Cinderella Story

July 11 - 22

Two Performances July 23

An Original Musical by Joshua Goldberg

Additional Music and Lyrics by Miles Burns and Scott Hermenau

Do you wanna go the barn dance? Cinderell’er sure does! But with stalls to muck, cattle to feed, and her spoil'd rotten Stepmother and Stepsisters ordering her about, looks like she ain’t gonna make it. Could a wish on a shootin’ star be just enough to turn her luck around? Or does this gal with gumption already have what she needs?

Session III
Life on a Plate: The Story of a Pea

July 25 - August 5

Two Performances August 6

Written and Conceived by Miles Burns and Hannah Morrisse

Original Music by Miles Burns and Scott Hermenau

So often in this world we hear stories of greatness, stories of triumph. This is one of those stories… It’s a small story, almost unnoticeable. Life on a Plate is the heroic tale of an underdog, or in this case “the last pea on the plate,” passed over time and time again. Join Pea, Carrot, and all the other inhabitants of the fridge on an eggs-i-stential journey to food paradise.
